From 2 June 2026, community pharmacies can provide funded assessment and treatment for a range of common health conditions. These services improve access to timely healthcare, allowing eligible patients to receive treatment directly from a trained pharmacist without needing to join the long wait times to see a GP.

Following a private consultation, our pharmacist will determine whether treatment is appropriate.

Funded Services & Eligibility

Pain and Fever Management

Assessment and funded treatment for children with mild pain or fever.

Eligible for:

• Children under 14 years of age

• Maximum patient charge:

  • Community Services Card (CSC): $5

  • No CSC: $20

Oral Rehydration

Assessment and supply of oral rehydration therapy for children with mild dehydration due to vomiting or diarrhoea.

Eligible for:

• Children under 14 years of age

• Maximum patient charge:

  • CSC: $5

  • No CSC: $20

Acute Bacterial Conjunctivitis

Assessment and treatment for uncomplicated bacterial conjunctivitis.

Eligible for:

• Children over 2 years and under 14 years of age

• Maximum patient charge:

  • CSC: $5

  • No CSC: $20

Head Lice

Assessment and funded treatment for active head lice.

Eligible for:

• Children under 14 years of age

• Whānau members of an eligible child with the same condition.

• Maximum patient charge:

  • CSC: $5

  • No CSC: $20

Scabies

Assessment and treatment for uncomplicated scabies.

Eligible for:

• Children under 14 years of age

• Whānau members of an eligible child with the same condition.

• Maximum patient charge:

  • CSC: $5

Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

Assessment and treatment for eligible women with symptoms of an uncomplicated urinary tract infection.

Eligible for:

• Women 16–65 years of age

• Maximum patient charge:

  • No CSC: $20

  • (Participating pharmacies may charge less.)

Emergency Contraception (ECP)

Confidential consultation and supply of emergency contraception.

Eligible for funded consultation:

• Women under 25 years of age

• Patient charge: FREE

The emergency contraceptive pill remains funded for people of all ages where eligible; however, from 2 June 2026, the pharmacist consultation is funded for women under 25 years of age.

Our pharmacists provide private, confidential consultations and can assess whether your condition can be safely treated in the pharmacy. If further medical care is needed, we'll ensure you're referred to the appropriate healthcare provider.
